Tips for a perfect visit to Sosua

There’s no need to pack heavy or leave anything behind when touring Sosua; everything you need is at your fingertips. Whether you’re looking for a day spent sunbathing on the beach, a night out partying with locals, or simply some R&R, here are some tips to help make your stay perfect:

  1. Get to know the area before arrival- like anywhere else in the world, there are places in Sosua that are better known than others and can be more expensive. Unless you have an intense interest in every single corner of this Caribbean paradise, try to focus on specific areas – such as Barcelo Beach Resort for its stunning white sand beaches and many bars and clubs within walking distance for lively nightlife, Lembeh Resort for its crystal clear waters and well-manicured gardens ideal for relaxation after spending all day by the pool or hitting the waves at nearby Maya Bay – instead of trying to see everything on your first visit. This will allow you much greater flexibility regarding itinerary choice and budget allocation during your trip.
  2. Make use of free activities – while Sosua certainly doesn’t lack attractions that cost money (e.g., diving trips), there are often complimentary activities offered by hotels or resorts located closeby that can be very rewarding in their own right (particularly if you don’t have any prior experience snorkeling or swimming). Some examples include going for sunset swims along deserted coastline watchpoints where seagulls provide soothing background music; hopping on a jetski rented from one of the local tour operators around Sandy Point Beach; exploring fisherman villages such as Cat Tuna boy near Mactan Marineland; baking bread brought straight from home ovens inside communal stone ovens found throughout Tangerine Alley food district in San Pedro de Macorís Town Square; enjoying refreshing fruit juices made fresh daily at local juice bars scattered throughout Puerto Plata city center; learning about Caribean history through tours provided by certified experts at La Boca Historical Museumhouse & Learning Centre situated atop Morro Castle overlooking town square also located in San Pedro de Macorís Town Square worth visiting just for its panoramic views alone! There’s something here for everyone who lives vicariously through fictional characters during travel adventures via social media stories starring friends & family back home!
  3. Allow extra time- this may be counterintuitive given how small Puerto Plata is, but don’t underestimate the traffic congestion and pedestrians on the streets that can slow down your pace considerably. Add an extra hour or two to your itinerary to be safe, especially if you visit popular tourist spots such as the beaches or nightlife districts.
  4. Rent a car- while taxis are available throughout the city, renting a car will give you more flexibility regarding where you want to go and what you want to see. Some popular car rental companies in Puerto Plata include Avis, Budget, Hertz, and National.
  5. Eat local- while many restaurants are serving international cuisine in Puerto Plata, it’s worth trying some of the more unique and authentic dishes found only in this region of the Caribbean. Try traditional dishes such as roast pork with rice and beans or chicken with yucca fries for a taste of the local cuisine that will leave you wanting more. Alternatively, head to one of the many beachside cafes for a refreshing drink or bite while taking in stunning ocean views from your outdoor seating area.
  6. Take advantage of Sosua’s lively nightlife- while this may not be something for everyone, if you’re looking for an exciting and vibrant night out with friends or family, Sosua is the place to be! Plenty of bars and nightclubs are located throughout the city center, and beach areas will keep you entertained all night long. Some popular spots include La Taberna del Mar near Barcelo Beach Resort; The Fuego Club at Lembeh Resort; Lighthouse Bar & Grill at Maya Bay Resort; and Coco Bongo’s Nightclub at Sheraton Grande Hotel & Towers, which is known for its lively atmosphere and DJ performances by international stars.
  7. Take advantage of Sosua’s natural beauty- Sosua is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean region, making it an ideal place to relax and soak up some sun during your stay. There are plenty of beaches close by, and mountainous areas such as Cerro Pelado (2 hours away by car) offer stunning views that can’t be found anywhere else on this side of the Atlantic Ocean. If hiking is your thing, head to nearby Mount Macorís (3 hours away by car), where trails lead hikers up to its summit for panoramic views that stretch down to the Caribbean Ocean.
  8. Explore Sosua’s historic sites- Puerto Plata is home to several exciting and historic sites, including the Real Monasterio de Santa Clara located in the El Condado neighborhood, Morro Castle overlooking the town square, and La Boca Historical Museumhouse & Learning Centre, which provides insights into the colonial history of this part of the world. There are also a few archaeological sites worth exploring, such as Suyapa Site, where ancient ceramic pieces and lithics have been found dating back to 200 BC; Las Llamas Archaeological Site, where ruins of an ancient Mayan city were discovered that date back to 900 AD; and Cerro El Abra Dam Site, where evidence has been found of early human occupation dating back 10,000 years!
